Brandon is a police officer who genuinely acts like a rookie. Not all cops are tough, but I had a seriously hard time believing he was one. He seemed to be in the wrong profession.

Brandon mentioned that he could tell when people were being dishonest, yet he was having an affair with his partner who was conveniently engaged to be married to a woman with connections. The fact that he really thought Phil was going to break it off with his fiance was pretty sad. I pitied him. I understood his reasons for blinding himself to the truth. No one truly wants to be alone in the world and because of that people like Brandon, one's with grand hearts and fierce but quiet spirits exist in the world and have a tendency of gravitating towards all the wrong people. I'm so glad this odd plot brought them together. Christian was a strong, sure-minded, sweet and solid character and felt he balanced out Brandon well.

The sex scenes between Brandon and Phil were well written but I could not for the life of me find it "hot". Cheating or particpating in the act as a third party is not hot. However, those that occured between him and Christian were because of the respect they both had for one another at the start of their initial meeting. I totally bought the attraction, even though I felt their relationship moved way too quickly in regards to the way the plot was introduced.

The plot I felt was weak and random and felt it almost took away from Brandon and Christian's relationship. The plot dealt with the search for a statue that would grant a person their true heart's desire. It at times felt too convienent, especially with tying loose ends for subplots introduced, such as, that of of "The Collectors" identity and resolving the curse placed on Kamut and her lover.

I went through phases of liking to hating to loving to then disling this story. Overall it was a decent read. Not one of the most solid stories I've ever read.

The Lost Temple of Karttikeya edition by Laura Baumbach Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I purchased and read this paperback back in December 2009. It was about a young Los Angeles detective (burglary) goes seeking his heart's desire after having his heart broken.

After learning that the senior closeted detective (who is engaged to a woman) that he has been having an affair with actually never had any intentions of breaking up with his fiancee, or being open about their relationship. In fact his lover set a wedding date & put in to transfer to another police departments without telling him.

Hoping to mend his aching heart and win back his lover, he ends up finding a new love, an adventure Indiana Jones style. He sets off with a tall buff & handsome archaeologist who owns an antique shop and is on a quest of his own.

Christian is on a quest to find his father who also happens to be a famous archaeologist in India. The young police detective accompanys him. During their adventures they encounter a big black lion, a churel "vampire" temple guard, and the magic of true love.
This M/M romantic novella with a supernatural twist flows and -no question asked- can be entertaining.
If you fail to switch off your critical self though, some flaws will come to the fore and disrupt a.m. enjoyment. To sum them up, this story is lacking good characterization and plot.

Phil is the best rounded character; he is also kind of a stereotype the cheater who in the end always chooses his own selfish needs. As this kind of person really exists, it is logical to find one sprouting up here and there in romances.
Christian never really comes alive, the author much too engaged in making him the perfect embodiment of the perfect knight in a perfect shining armour. He is gorgeous and likeable but superficially so.
Audra has a tragic potential that is left untouched.
The main problem, though, lies with Brandon.
The author does not manage to make his relationship with Phil (and later with Christian) believable. People have weaknesses in real life but Ms Baumbach fails to make us feel for him; I just kept on thinking "Come on, how stupid can you be?".
Besides, his caffeine and sugar needs never become the funny quirk they were probably meant to be, but remain what they blatantly are an ugly addiction that is no better for being "legal".

While general plotting is interesting and makes sense, the author omits to flesh it out. Whole -interesting- pages have remained in her pen and they are sorely missed. Very detailed sex scenes hardly make up for the missing transitions and adventures.

Writing is generally fluid but there are quite a few grammar mistakes.
