A Beautiful girl is a lovely book that celebrates the diversity in every girl. With beautiful illustrations accompanied by poetry, little girls and big girls will love this book that inspires them to shine the beauty within.
"A beautiful girl is any girl at all. It's not only external it's every girl's call. If you are a girl you are beautiful too. Bring beauty to the world by just being you."
A Beautiful Girl Created To Be edition by Nikki Rogers Children eBooks
The first time I read through this book I fell in love with it. Each page describes different attributes of "beautiful girl", something like this:"A beautiful girl has skin that is fair.
Whatever she's blessed with she wants to share.
She is a giver of gifts; has others on her mind.
She likes to do things that are thoughtful and kind."
The first line of every page describes a physical attribute of the girl in the picture on that page. Besides the fair skinned girl, there is a dark skinned girl, a girl with skin like desert sands, girls with just about every hair color and style, a girl with freckles, tall and petite girls, an even a girl with a scarf on her head with apparently no hair at all. I'm pointing this out because I noticed in a few negative reviews that some girls are excluded - there are no pudgy girls or painfully shy girls, and apparently a few people have taken offense to that.
But the important thing is that after that first descriptive line, there are several lines about beautiful girls being kind, loving, and a whole variety of various attributes about each of the girls. The key is at the end of the book, when the author states,
"A beautiful girl is any girl at all.
It's not only external it's every girl's call.
If you are a girl you are beautiful too.
Bring beauty to the world by just being you!"
... and it continues along like that about all girls being precious and loved by God.
It doesn't really matter if a girl doesn't perfectly match the description on any particular page. Perhaps a nice springboard from this book would be for your girl to draw a followup page of herself, and with her parent's (or teacher's) help, describe herself and what makes her special. Just off the top of my head, something like this:
A beautiful girl is soft and round
She seldom ever makes a sound
She likes to draw and paint pictures too
Bringing each day something brand new.
(My apologies to the author for copying her ideas.) Anyway, it doesn't have to rhyme. Just something for your special girl to personalize the beautiful message of this book. I think it's important to focus on the message of this book rather than on the specific details on any one page. This is a wonderful, life-affirming book for girls, something that is missing all to often in today's society. (I believe there is a similar type of book for boys, but I haven't read it yet.) Bravo to the author for promoting children's self-esteem. It's too often overlooked.

I love this book! I read it to my four year old a lot and she loves it too. It has about a dozen beautifully illustrated pictures with rhyming verse that describes every kind of girl out there and how beautiful she is. My beautiful girl is small and petite but there's also a beautiful girl with bright red hair, a beautiful girl with skin like desert sands, one who is gracious and tall, etc. This book is for every girl because every girl is beautiful!
I am giving this rating because my daughter knows that her beautiful brown, chocolate skin makes her beautiful. She knows also that there are many beautiful girls that are different, but that is the beauty on beautiful girls. All are beautiful not matter how you look.
My little girl read this book to me and it is absolutely adorable. This book tells young girls that all are beautiful. My little girl is 7 years old and I want her to understand that everyone is beautiful in their own way and these are the kinds of books that they need to read.
Beautifully written. Very diverse and make my daughter fell so special. A must read for your girl. Always be yourself.
This is a very nice children's book. You are a "beautiful girl" if you have "skin that is fair" with "golden hair". You are a beautiful girl if you have "skin like desert sands". You are a beautiful girl if you have "freckles on your face" or "hair black as night" or if you're "gracious and tall" or "petite and small". This is a very good way to let children know they are beautiful no matter what their exterior packaging. Nice illustrations too!
A Beautiful Girl is a beautiful book. I will admit that when I read the first page I was a little unsure because it starts out that a beautiful girl "has skin that is fair" and I was like, "oh no" but then as it goes on you see that a beautiful girl is any girl at all and she includes all types of physical traits that a girl may have (though, I didn't see an overweight girl...five year old me would have noticed that) but the real emphasis is on the character traits, as it should be. What makes you beautiful is inside, and I love that this book puts the emphasis there. The illustrations are beautiful and fun, I absolutely love them.
